Adoption Procedure
Before you are eligible to adopt any animal from Border Paws Animal Shelter, you must complete our Adoption Application, and must be approved as an adopter.
To complete an adoption you must:
- be a pre-approved adopter
- be at least 18 years of age
- visit the shelter to meet the animals
- provide at least one piece of photo identification with current address
Applications are reviewed within 48 hours. If approved, our Kennel Coordinator will contact you to set up a time to introduce you to any animals that may best suit what you are looking for, or the animal you've requested a visit with.
All dogs, cats, puppies and kittens available for adoption have
- been spayed or neutered
- received at least one set of vaccines
- received a microchip for identification
Note: Animals are adopted to the individual with the most favorable application for the needs of the animal. Border Paws Animal Shelter reserves the right to deny any application received for any reason deemed fit by the organization.
Barn Buddies
Our "Barn Buddies" program provides cats previously considered unadoptable due to behavioral issues, the opportunity to live in selected rural farm, warehouse, business, or shop situations.
If you have a safe, heated outbuilding, there are cats that desperately need you. Barn Buddy cats will help with the rodent population as well. The cats will be helping you, and you will be helping them by providing them with a safe place to live.
All cats available through the Barn Buddies program are spayed/neutered, health checked, microchipped, and vaccinated.
Donations are always appreciated, however these cats are available with no adoption fee to individuals who agree to provide:
- shelter in safe & heated barns, shops, warehouses or other suitable buildings
- daily food and water - cats cannot live on mousing alone
- long term veterinary care, if needed and as required
- a secure place to keep them for the first 2-3 weeks, while they acclimate to their new surroundings
While Barn Buddy cats may not enjoy the company of humans, most cats do enjoy the company of other felines. We highly recommend adopting at least two Barn Buddies. They will have companionship and you will have twice the benefit!
